Let Us Start Counting

Soon, in the 2nd week of October, the Parliament will convene for their regular and scheduled sessions.

Pak Lah declined Anwar's request for a Emergency Parliamentary meeting on 23rd September (today) to have a no confidence vote against Pak Lah.

This meeting, if approved, could see Pak Lah removed from his PM-ship but according to the Constitution and laws, the party that holds the majority in Parliament will nominate a candidate to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and advise Yang Di Pertuan Agong to appoint their candidate choice to be the new Prime MInister of Malaysia.

If 23rd September was approved and today we really witness Pak Lah being removed (if and only if), it will not guarantee Pakatan Rakyat the golden passage to Putrajaya and Anwar to Seri Perdana. Instead, Barisan Nasional will have their own candidate elected as PM of Malaysia.

DAP asked for 929. Remember that we had 916 and now 923 can be kissed goodbye already. DAP proposed a 929. 29th September 2008. Yet, a motion of no confidence against Pak Lah that will not guarantee Anwar and Pakatan Rakyat the Federal Government.

Anwar knows he cannot get the motion of no confidence vote against Pak Lah. Not even during the scheduled Parliament session. The Speaker has the right to determine what motion will be tabled in Parliament.

Pakatan Rakyat needs to file it with the Speaker's chambers as soon as possible if they want a motion of no confidence vote.

If Pakatan Rakyat knows that the Speaker's chambers might not approve the motion to be tabled, then why wait and keep pressuring for the motion?

Pakatan Rakyat, as claimed by Anwar and several leaders that they have the numbers already. Why not make a crossover and be the majority party?

Enough is enough of this sandiwara. Throwing the ball in the court of BN and the Speaker's chambers will not work. They won't play the ball game with you, Anwar.

Show us the list of 31MPs that Anwar claimed was "growing by the hour". Datin Seri Wan Azizah was the latest top gun of PR to join the drama.

Some PAS leaders claimed to have shown the list to their Committee members. In fact, I have a few questions. Perhaps some lawyers can help answer them?

1. If Anwar faces uncertainty to get the motion of no confidence to Parliamentary sessions, then why not make the crossovers happen? The party that holds the majority will have the right to nominate to the King their candidate choice to be PM.

2. What happened to the crossovers? This term was sensationalized and by now the words of "Emergency Parliament Session" and "Vote of No Confidence" seems more popular.

3. What will a vote of no confidence do for Anwar and Pakatan Rakyat? BN still has the numbers and will nominate their choice to the King to be installed as the new PM, if Pak Lah is voted out in Parliament.

4. Why is DAP asking for 929 when Anwar asked for 923? Why is YB M Kula saying that he is against crossovers but YB Lim Kit Siang is very supportive of Anwar's "efforts" to fish MPs over? A clash of opinions within the party?

5. Why did Tian Chua say there are intermediary talks between Pakatan Rakyat and Pak Lah's camp while Anwar said he is not aware of such things?

I call upon all the bloggers to unite. Put a count up widget (not a countdown). There were many who had countdowns to the so called "new Government". The countdown was for the September 16th "new Government".

Why not try something new? Let us have a count up. A count up of the day since September 16th. Forget about 923 and 929.

Those dates are clearly rubbish and ridiculous. On September 15th, Anwar was still confident of 916 and claimed he will announce the list and the takeover will happen.

916 came and left like any other day.

Bloggers, let us have a count up. Many are still waiting for Anwar to deliver his reforms, his economic management, his leadership and all his election promises.

Let us all tell Anwar. Do it quick !

I am still waiting, Datuk Seri Anwar. 7 days have passed. I will let the widget continue ticking till the day crossovers occur and you have the majority of MPs in your party.

Or ... you have nothing, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim? If you have nothing, why drag the credibility and ratings of the most formidable Opposition ever formed along with you to sing the tune of "916, crossovers, new Government" ?

I can only wonder and ponder.

7 Days Have Passed

Tian Chua, information chief of Anwar's PKR, said there had been several meetings since the weekend between "our middleperson and Abdullah's middleperson".

"Our intention in holding them is for a transition of power to the opposition but I cannot speak for the other side," he told AFP. "So far it looks good and we will wait to see what happens."

Sept 23, 2008

PKR information chief Tian Chua said in Ipoh that Pakatan hoped to resolve some technical issues before Oct 1.

“We don’t want to give up our stability as the price for the transition,” he told reporters after attending a PKR people’s forum on Sunday night.

“I am very confident. We hope the change of government will happen before Hari Raya.”

Anwar drops deadline for Govt takeover
Sept 24, 2008

“It is not an issue of deadlines anymore. Who could have anticipated that the Prime Minister would refuse to hold an emergency Parliament session when we already have the numbers?”

Sept 24, 2008

"I appeal to Malaysian citizens, particularly those who want to see a change, to understand this and be a bit more patient because we do not want to transgress the constitution, rules and procedures," he told a press conference.

"It will take a lot of patience, a lot of resolve, to try and unravel this complex web controlled by a few cronies," he said.

Sept 24, 2008

"I'm not aware of any negotiations taking place between Pakatan Rakyat and the prime minister - statements made yesterday suggesting that a line of communication was open were misinformed," said the opposition leader in a statement.

Asked on the same issue later today, Anwar added: "No, not that I'm aware of… he (Tian) may have a privy to other information but as far as I'm concern what the PM said was right."Very rarely do I agree with Abdullah Badawi."

A PIECE OF MY MIND

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, I have never criticised the Opposition so harshly ever since you became the Opposition leader of Pakatan Rakyat.

When Datuk Fadzil Noor was the Chief, I had full respect for him. When Lim Kit Siang was chief, I respected him.

In fact, I met M Kulasegaran in Ipoh and I told him, "YB, you have my support". Although I dont see YB Kula making rounds in normal days like he does during Elections, but I watch videos of Parliamentary proceedings.

He has my support because he is a good Parliamentarian, in terms of speech, substance and quality.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, today will be the day I make a count since Sept 16th,

1. the date you promised the rakyat who voted for you in Permatang Pauh that you will form a Government.

2. the date you promised to the 20000 or so people at the Kelana Jaya stadium on 15th September that you have the numbers and will takeover the Government.

3. the date which you set and manipulated the message of the people that was clear in March 2008. 5 Pakatan Rakyat States as a test for PR to deliver their promises and perform and BN gets to keep 8 States as well as the Federal Government.

That was an indicator, not for Datuk Seri to be PM, PR to takeover or for Datuk Seri to create all these uncertainties till even the USD 1 trillion fund managers you talked to will not invest in Malaysia.

Sept 16th came and passed. Today is Sept 23rd. Let me put a note at my blog sidebar. 7 hari berlalu, janji tidak dikota. You can be sure.

I will count it day after day till the day, you really takeover. Then, I will "tarik balik" everything.

Malaysia - Riding The Storm of Financial Crisis

Malaysia - Riding The Storm of Financial Crisis

In 1998, I witnessed the classic "Mahanomics" in action that saved our country from being like Thailand and Indonesia. I need not convince you on this. You can either read up yourself or check the statistics in EPU.

Beginning from 2008, we witness the great effects of the credit crisis in US that spread through many major developed countries that are heavily dependent on financial sectors.

Even my lecturer in ANU, a very top expert who has worked as an advisor for World Bank to countries like Sudan and other developing countries, commented that he is not sure if we might even be facing a repeat of The Great Depression of the 1930s.

For him to have such thoughts, it is really something to be concerned. And we have Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak holding the finance portfolio now.

I dont know if he can help Malaysia's economy but I am sure Tun Dr Mahathir can as proven in the 1998 Asian Financial Crisis. Malaysia does not need to pay IMF any money at all and we are not debt burdened.

I got a feeling Tengku Razaleigh might be able to govern our country well, given that he once held the Finance portfolio before he left to fight Tun in UMNO and later founded Semangat 46 and rejoining UMNO soon after.

Only Tengku Razaleigh came close to unseating Dr Mahathir in UMNO and from the PM-ship of Malaysia. UMNO members must be clear.

If I am in UMNO, my vote goes for Tengku Razaleigh and Tan Sri Muhyiddin where I have said in the past that Ku Li should be President of UMNO and BN and work on party matters.

The party of UMNO and BN needs to convince the people that they are still strong, united and very relevant. The Premier-ship should instead be recommended to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong to be filled by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

We shall wait and see. It is getting interesting as we approach the year end when MCA and UMNO elections will be held. Two largest parties of Malaysia, and the strongest allies of Barisan Nasional.

The Western Hypocrisy (updated)

Dr M slams US bailout plan
NST 23/9/08

ALOR STAR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has rapped the United States government for its intervention in the country's troubled financial sector.

He said the US government was practising double standards when it criticised Malaysia for helping out some troubled local firms during the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

"The US ran us down when we wanted to help some of our companies which were hard hit by the financial crisis then.

"Today, the American government is doing the same thing and it is all right, but when we did it, it was wrong," he said after giving Raya gifts to more than 100 poor and needy folk in Kampung Pida 7 in Jerlun near here yesterday.

Present were his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir. The former prime minister was asked on the US government's bailout plan involving more than US$180 billion (RM615 billion) for a number of American firms facing financial turmoil .

Asked about the government's decision not to re-peg the ringgit, he said the government should consider doing so against the currency of the nation that Malaysia does the most trading with.

Asked if the price of petrol should be further reduced, Dr Mahathir said the government should do so since the price of a barrel of petroleum has gone down substantially.

"I know this would also reduce our petrol earnings but that is something that the government should do to cushion the effects," he said.

A PIECE OF MY MIND
Benar kata Tun.

My Criticisms of The Western Ideologies
1. Corruption

The Western countries slam Asian countries and Malaysia for various issues. When we have distortions in Elections or Government machineries in the form of corruption, we are heavily criticised and publicised in the West.

However, do we not realise that the West are as corrupt as Asian countries? The difference is just that they use a better wording - "kickbacks".

2. Proton

Malaysians especially, together with Western leaders and economists from Europe slam Malaysia for supporting Proton and establishing an automobile industry as well as creating automotive jobs that include car dealers, mechanics, automobile engineers, automobile managers, and many others.

Let me remind the Europeans and the many Malaysians who say the West are so great and Malaysia is foolish to support Proton.

With protectionist policies in the form of tariffs on competitors and subsidies to Proton in Malaysia, we are merely making an investment for the future and for our community in the form of automobile knowledge, technology advancement and job opportunities.

3. Economy

Related to the Proton matter, the Europeans are hypocrites too. Yes, the great Western cultures and economies that many Malaysians "adore".

Economists, leaders and citizens of Malaysia as well as the Western powers slam us for our protectionist policies. Now, I need not show you the US case.

Instead, I have always preferred to attack the European Union policies. Allow me to bring to your attention of what could possibly be the world's greatest protectionist policy, The Common Agricultural Policy.

It is a system of agricultural subsidies and programmes that represents 47% of the whole European Union budget. The figures are correct for latest statistics, in year 2006.

Do I even need to bring up the matter of Boeing vs Airbus? Boeing has been heavily criticised for being heavily backed by the US Government with military contracts and NASA projects (another form of protectionism) while it is a known fact that Airbus receives financial aid from the European states and some generalize it as the European Union.

In fact, in 2005, the US and EU had a legal war over Airbus and Boeing with both countries accusing each other of over protecting their national planemakers.

As for China-US relations, textile exports from China are subject to export taxation which is a form of voluntary export restraint.

This was implemented at the request of the US Government because the textile imports to US have caused a big problem to the cotton and textile industry in US.

Also, I remember once being told about the Japanese carmakers who dumped their cars in US and took the market by storm.

For those who don't know what dumping is, it is a strategy of selling goods and services below the market prices or value of the item traded.

That sparked an outrage in US. I am sure many other "dumping cases" occured and the Congress was forced to pass an Anti Dumping Bill where an "anti dumping" fine or tax will be imposed in cases identified by the Commission.

So much for the Western ideologies of - "if you cant compete, let those who can".

4. Value of US economy

It might be a trillion dollar economy and is a country full of opportunities. But ask any financier, economist, or accountant and they can tell you that US is possibly a bankrupt country.

US Government heavily depend on their Government bills, Treasury bonds and external debt - be it public or private. US is truly a debt laden country.

5. Human rights

What we do not know, will not hurt the Government. But overtime, due to Intelligence laws in the United States, CIA and FBI files will be released to the public.

These days, we hear and read alot about the "secret detention cells" in various countries. We also read about the quality of human rights of the detainees in the United States.

For the wonderful US record on human rights in Iraq, I surely encourage you to refer to the Perdana 4 Peace Foundation.

A conference was once held when in KL - Expose War Crimes, Criminalize War.

Let me direct you to the accounts of the famous Abu Ghraib former prisoner - Ali Shalah. Some of the excerpts from TheStar - Man in hood recounts torture :

“I was cut inside and bled profusely. During this time, when guards walked past me, they would beat me. I had no food for 36 hours,” he said at the Expose War Crimes – Criminalise War Conference.

Ali Shalah, an Islamic education lecturer by profession, spoke of how US soldiers stripped him, tied him to steel bars and threw human waste and urinated on him.

Rakyat's message manipulated

Aaaah. I was reading NST news a few days ago and I came across the video of Tun Dr Mahathir. It has been a long time since I watched Tun speak on video.

RPK used to attend Tun's functions to record and upload the speeches. Hm. Anyone knows where I can get Tun's speeches in video from time to time?

It surprises me to see Tun Dr Mahathir still calling Anwar a bluff. I have said in the past that Anwar will not be the new PM because looking at signals from Tun Dr Mahathir, Anwar's greatest enemy, Tun is not making any exit plans from Malaysia.

Source of video : NSTP

So, what is next for Anwar and Pakatan Rakyat? Everyone is talking about Pakatan Rakyat and everyone equates Pakatan Rakyat to the term "new Government".

Is that so? I go with Tun's words for now. Anwar is full of bluff.

There were reports that PR leaders will go to the Istana next - "untuk mendapat perkenan dan restu Yang DiPertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan".

According to Prof Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi, "Yes, Anwar said they are going to the Istana. They are most welcome to the Istana; they can have nice tea there, I’m sure, but nothing more than that."

Whichever date the Pakatan Rakyat leaders are setting - Sept 23rd or 29th or whatever - what will a vote of no confidence in Pak Lah do for Pakatan Rakyat?

Barisan Nasional MPs still hold the majority in Parliament. Even if every single BN MPs say "aye" in the motion of no confidence in Pak Lah, that will not guarantee Pakatan Rakyat to be the new Government of Malaysia.

Neither will Anwar be PM. It will happen only after crossovers. Without the crossovers, BN MPs will be the one to nominate to the Yang DiPertuan Agong an UMNO leader to be the next PM of Malaysia.

Unless of course, we are looking at the true intentions of Pakatan Rakyat where Anwar is not planning to be the 6th PM this term but in the next edition of General Elections. Possibly, the Pakatan Rakyat's true motive is to send Pak Lah off and let Najib takeover as the new Prime Minister.

That way, Pakatan Rakyat can continue with their shots and allegations at Najib just like what they have been doing all these while. Pakatan Rakyat might get the golden key to Putrajaya if their allegations of Najib works.

Pakatan Rakyat leaders are holding meetings and telling their committee that they have the list of crossovers. A leader from PAS even said that MCA and MIC MPs are crossing over too, with a majority of East Malaysian Muslim MPs making up the complete list.

And here I thought that Malaysians have made their choice in March 2008,

Pakatan Rakyat - 5 States
BN - Federal Govt and 8 States

The results were left as nothing but memories and seem insignificant to some. Not even MPs are respecting the rakyat's decision (assuming crossovers). And not even Pakatan Rakyat - "the party of the people" - respects the Election results.

The rakyat sent a clear message to BN that the leadership needs to improve and to Pakatan Rakyat that "Hey, we are giving you a chance to show results in 4 new States. Perform and we will vote for you again".

The message was clear, only to be manipulated. Sigh. Who are we to trust? Malaysian politicians have created the most interesting drama of the year. Or will it be for 5 consecutive years till the next GE?

Sigh.

Pak Lah to Continue?

I just read an article in Cuitsikit - Blogger, MT dan Pergolakan UMNO. The focus of the blog entry by Cuitsikit :

..... Sungguhpun selepas mesyuarat MT lalu, Pak Lah dikatakan akan meletak jawatan sebelum 9 Oktober, namun desakan Khairy Jamaluddin, Zaki Ahmad Zahid dan Datuk Che Alwi "al ketereh". menjadi punca perubahan ini. .....

Aaah. And we read in TheStar - Pak Lah not pushed to step down, says UMNO Information Chief. UMNO's Info Chief is none other than Rural and Regional Development Minister Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib. Mat Taib is also known as Mike Tyson to some.

Now, can we say that Pak Lah has four Generals? Hmm. 4 for Pak Lah, 4 against Pak Lah. Read The Star - Pak Lah under pressure to exit.

I am also surprised that Pak Lah is not able to play politics like other UMNO leaders. When attacked, a politician usually defends himself and try to attack back, and regain support.

Perhaps, Pak Lah with KJ, Datuk Che Alwi, Zaki and Mat Taib have plans?

Anwar and the MCA MPs

June 16, 2008 News - Malaysiakini
source - Anwar: MCA MPs will defect to Pakatan

“I can safely say that several MCA MPs will join us soon,” he told journalists yesterday, after opening a service centre in Bayan Baru, Penang.

“It’s about time that we take over. It’s only a matter of time for us to take over. We are so close to Putrajaya,” he said to roars from some 30,000 people.“It’s very soon. I will not say how (soon). But it will happen soon.”

June 30, 2008 News - Malaysiakini
source - Anwar leaves Turkish embassy

Anwar claimed that four parliamentarians from the ruling Barisan Nasional component parties - of whom two were from Umno - will be defecting to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat this week.

"This week, I was supposed to announce which constituency I was going to contest in and the four Barisan Nasional parliamentarians who are going to join us. As such, they've had to act now (referring to the Saiful allegations)."

According to Anwar, because of the allegations, he has had to put off the announcements.

September 16, 2008 News excerpts - NST
source - Anwar: Public will know crossover list today

The list of Barisan Nasional members of parliament who would cross over to the Pakatan Rakyat will be announced today, PR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said last night.

Addressing more than 10,000 people gathered at the Kelana Jaya Stadium for the PR's Malaysia Day celebration, he claimed that the opposition coalition was poised to take over the Federal Government.

"We have the numbers and we are ready. Tomorrow (today), we will announce it (the crossover list)," he said.

September 18, 2008 News excerpts - Malaysiakini
source : PAS tahu senarai MP lompat

September 19, 2008 News - Thestar
source : Anwar wants to go to Parliament before Court case

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the only way for Pakatan Rakyat to form the Federal Government was via an emergency session of Parliament to be convened by Tuesday for a no-confidence motion to be tabled against Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He insisted yesterday that Pakatan Rakyat had the numbers to form a new government, adding that the names of the Barisan Nasional MPs who were ready to switch sides would be revealed in Parliament.

MCA MPs :

1. YB Dato' Seri Ong Ka Ting - retiring MCA President

2. YB Datuk Ong Tee Keat - Transport Minister, MCA President Candidate 2008

3. YB Dato' Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn - current MCA VP, MCA VP Candidate 2008

4. YB Dato' Seri Ong Ka Chuan - Housing and Local Government Minister, MCA Deputy President Candidate 2008

5. YB Dato' Liow Tiong Lai - Health Minister, current MCA Youth Chief, MCA VP Candidate 2008

6. YB Dato' Dr Ng Yen Yen - Women and Community Development Minister, MCA VP Candidate 2008

7. YB Dato' Chor Chee Heung - Deputy Home Minister, MCA VP Candidate 2008

8. YB Datuk Lee Chee Leong

9. YB Dr Wee Ka Siong - Deputy Education Minister

10. YB Wee Jeck Seng - Deputy Youth and Sports Minister

11. YB Teng Boon Soon - Deputy Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister

12. YB Chua Tee Yong

13. YB Dr Hou Kok Chung - Deputy Higher Education Minister

14. YB Tan Ah Eng

15. YB Dato' Kong Cho Ha - Deputy Minister of Finance, MCA VP Candidate 2008

A PIECE OF MY MIND
I wonder who from MCA will crossover. The 15 MCA MPs must come out and assure us that they will not crossover.

With so many holding Government posts and the rest playing a big role in the party, will they join PKR, DAP or PAS?

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim needs to play his cards right. There is a lot of uncertainty now of whether he is telling the truth or not. Many people trust his words now but if he doesnt show any results soon, the people will get tired of him.

Again, this might affect Pakatan Rakyat's future. Pakatan Rakyat 82 MPs should focus on strengthening Pakatan Rakyat and play the role of a formidable Opposition team.

In the next General Election (2012-2013), Pakatan Rakyat then can show to the people and sing their successes in 5 Pakatan Rakyat States as well as at National level of what they did and how well they fared. The people will decide who gets to govern Malaysia, not Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Pakatan Rakyat's true challenges and objectives are reforms, democracy, judiciary, economy, education, trade and unity. Throwing all their chips in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a very big gamble.

Who is next in line after Anwar? I want to know as a voting Malaysian.

I told a friend of mine here that politicians are the minority and yet they are the most influential people in our lives for 5 years. The rakyat will only be powerful for one day, during the Election Day.

And that is the day we should vote wisely and determine who we want as leaders and leave aside the “entertainers”, “trouble makers” and “liars”.

The responsibility lies not in the hands of our leaders but in the hands of the people. Vote wisely and we shall get a good government, a good 5 years, and a happy life. A wrong vote will see a circus of entertainment like Malaysia now.

Pakatan Rakyat - Easier Said Than Done

Law expert Professor Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi was interviewed by theSun about Pakatan Rakyat's ambitions to takeover the Federal Government from Barisan Nasional.

The article can be read at Easier said than done, by Husna Yusop.

Even if on September 23rd Pak Lah received a vote of no confidence and is booted out of Seri Perdana, it doesnt mean that Anwar will be the 6th PM of Malaysia.

He needs the MPs of BN to officially crossover. I am very interested to know who will crossover. For now, SAPP left BN and we can perhaps assume that SAPP will stand in Anwar's camp.

What about MCA? 10 out of 15 MCA members are high ranking Government officials. Also, MCA is UMNO and Barisan Nasional's senior partner all the while. Remember the case where UMNO was deregistered and declared an illegal party during the Mahathir-Razaleigh tussle for power? MCA took over the Chairmanship of Barisan Nasional. MCA will not leave BN for now.

Who is next to leave BN? Gerakan will wait and see. MIC will not leave too. Looking at statistics, the focus lies on East Malaysian MPs who have declared that they are not easily bought over and will honour their alliance with Barisan Nasional.

Then, who will crossover, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim? 31 MPs? Increasing by the hour? I am "anxious" to know the list.

Excerpts from the article :

.... Yes, Anwar said they are going to the Istana. They are most welcome to the Istana; they can have nice tea there, I’m sure, but nothing more than that.

A piece of paper with 112 names is not enough. Anyone can write their names. It has to be on the floor of the house.

And, under Article 43 of the Constitution, the PM has two options once Parliament approves a motion of no confidence against him. He can either step down or advise the Agong for a dissolution of the Dewan. He has got those choices.

However, the King can say no to the dissolution of Parliament under Article 40a (2) (b). Then, in this case, the PM will have to step down. .....

...... All parties have plans once they come to power. All parties have their own manifesto. Everyone is allowed to dream. That’s the basic need. But, the reality on the ground is, there is no clear evidence that the current government is losing its support in the parliament. .....

Whatever it is, Datuk Seri Anwar. Assuming that I trust you have the majority numbers, make it fast. Malaysia is suffering a lot from the political instability. If you do not have the numbers, take up Professor Mohd Mustafa Ishak's advice - FOCUS ON BEING OPPOSITION LEADER.

Let us have peace and move on with debates on national policies for the rakyat. If you are capable, I am very certain the rakyat will send you to Putrajaya in the 13th General Election.

The Future of UMNO and PKR

Pak Lah evidently cannot take on Anwar alone. Right now, I dont think even UMNO can fight Pakatan Rakyat and Anwar especially.

Talks about the takeover will even accelerate Anwar's chances to power. All these while, Anwar's target has been Najib.

Pak Lah do get criticisms from Anwar but those are soft attacks. Mainly, Anwar says things like Barisan Nasional Government is corrupt, UMNO's economic mismanagement and weak leadership and a questionable judiciary system.

Najib gets words from Anwar and his camp like "Altantuya!"or "Port Dickson". I wonder what Anwar knows about Najib and what happened in Port Dickson. Anwar hinted this during the Permatang Pauh by election campaign.

Well, RPK in the past often target Datin Seri Rosmah, saying that she abused her power with military trucks used to transport her shopping, she was there during the murder of Altantuya, Malaysia will be controlled by Rosmah behind the scenes and many more.

Najib was the real target of the Opposition.

I have no idea if RPK's reports that Rosmah was at the scene of the murder or Rosmah abused her power when Najib held the portfolio of Menteri Pertahanan.

I also do not know whether it is the truth or not about Rosmah and her spending spree in London. This, I will comment. If she has the financial capabilities to do so, why can't she spend on a RM 20,000 handbag? Is that wrong? She has her basic human rights to buy what she wants.

Other than this, I will not comment any other things about Rosmah. If there are evidences, then bring it up to the police and the Parliament. I am sure even the Conference of Rulers will slam Najib and Rosmah if there were any misdeeds.

Hearsays and smokebombs can create alot of misconceptions. We should all avoid these, at all costs.

UMNO must realise that people are looking at 3 choices - Anwar, Pak Lah and Najib. Between these three, who would you choose?

I hope UMNO realise that there might be a risk if Pak Lah handsover to Najib. Pak Lah's political future cannot go further than 2010. But what about Najib?

UMNO should think properly in December when they have their General Assembly. I have to apologize to Tun Dr Mahathir because I cannot agree with him that other BN component parties should chip in to oust Pak Lah.

My view is that MCA, MIC and Gerakan should not interfere in UMNO's party politics. UMNO has never interfered in MCA, MIC and Gerakan's party elections.

To unseat Pak Lah from his Premier-ship, Pak Lah has to be unseated from the post of President of UMNO. If MCA, MIC and Gerakan interferes, then will it not open a door to further chaos of perhaps racial sentiments and it might even open the door for inter-party elections influence.

UMNO needs to settle the matter themselves. All UMNO members must consider the fact that it is now a choice of Anwar, Najib and Pak Lah.

Perhaps influential and powerful men like Tengku Razaleigh, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin or even Raja Nazrin Shah should place themselves into the scene. Any combination of these three will hit Anwar's chances and future hard. Just like how Jui Meng threw himself in the scene and spoiled the party for Soi Lek.

UMNO must think wisely. MCA, MIC and Gerakan can throw in some opinions but not interfere with UMNO's politics. Otherwise, Barisan Nasional will be in chaos and inter-party relationships might face problems in the future.

As for PKR, any plans for the future? What's next after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim? Or should I ask who's next in line? I hope Pakatan Rakyat also can sit down and formulate a proper alliance just like Barisan Nasional.

There is a need for Pakatan Rakyat to strengthen themselves first, and not charge like a bull into Putrajaya just like that. The people will soon ask questions like what will happen to the alliance of DAP-PKR-PAS when Anwar is no longer there?

Assuming Pakatan Rakyat governs Malaysia one day, and if we put Hadi and Kit Siang as the DPM, will Hadi be the new Premier after Anwar? Or will it be Azmin Ali? Nurul Izzah? Khalid Ibrahim?

I am very curious to know what Pakatan Rakyat's model is. To reform the judiciary, corrupt practices and race relations, I believe even Barisan Nasional can do it. It can be as some people term - an Opposition from within.

Thus, Pakatan Rakyat needs to show us why they are worthy of our support to be the new Government of Malaysia. But their chances might take a hit if UMNO play their cards right with their leadership choices.

Interesting, isn't it? Everyone is taking lots of breaks from their work and activities to read the papers, the blogs and listen to the radio about politics in Malaysia.

Instead of emulating the Japanese hardworking culture, we are turning into a politically crazy community like Pakistan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand and perhaps the United States of America.

Majukah Malaysia? I wonder.

Undi Tak Percaya

And the numbers are increasing by the hour. Begitulah kata Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Lain hari, cerita sama.

Maaflah Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Kini, nampaknya DAP pun tak sehaluan sesama pemimpin.

Seperti kata Professor di UUM, if Anwar fails to topple the Government as planned on Sept 16, he will continue trying for the next few years.

Lima tahun tanpa kestabilan politik. Siapa yang sengsara? Rakyat jelata. Ku mengeluh, kerana ku dengar tangisan Malaysia, tanah tumpah darahku.

Anwar at 2pm, UMNO at 3pm - Sept 18 2008

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will be having a press conference at 2pm. For those interested, you can view it here - live coverage.

UMNO Supreme Council will meet at 3pm to discuss transitional issues and the party. I wonder what the outcome will be.

Let us wait and see what Anwar will be saying. I hope there will not be any reporters saying "different day...same story" again.

Anwar is indeed a skilfull politician. Will he set another date for a takeover? Will he say that he will be meeting the King next? What will Datuk Ser Anwar Ibrahim say today?

Check it out at 2pm. It will be more interesting than the UMNO Supreme Council meeting outcome, I believe.

Where is Anwar?

Where is the Pakatan Rakyat Government that we were promised and told that will happen? Where is the "more than 31 defectors" announcement? Like many, I am one of them very "keen" to see the drama of a Constitutional crisis and a shift of power at Federal level from Barisan Nasional to Pakatan Rakyat.

Today is Sept 18th 2008.

On Sept 15th in Kelana Jaya Stadium, former Deputy PM of Malaysia Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim laid foundations that Sept 16th Pakatan Rakyat's rise to power will be a reality when he claimed that he has more than 31 BN MPs crossing over.

According to Anwar on the 15th, the list would be announced on the 16th and he will seek to meet Pak Lah. Sept 16th came and nothing happened.

Today is Sept 18th. Where is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim? What is your next move, Datuk Seri? PAS Muktamar members are not happy and a large group of PAS members are questioning the credibility of Anwar and the appropriateness of an Anwar-led Government.

PAS leaders were nowhere to be seen in Kelana Jaya Stadium. And now we have Kelantan PAS vs Terengganu PAS politics within PAS itself.

Now, my hometown's MP Ipoh Barat M Kulasegaran voiced that the DAP prefers fresh elections than defections.

Read it here - DAP : We prefer fresh elections to defections. I do not knw if this is a personal view or official stand of DAP. But YB Lim Kit Siang was there at Kelana Jaya Stadium on the 15th.

Whatever it is, I agree with YB M. Kulasegaran that fresh elections instead of defections will be a better mandate and a better way. I have said this numerous times already and I will say it again.

The people votes for the candidate and also the party they represent in each seat. A defection of any seating MP will not be ethical as it betrays the party and the people's votes.

Now, the message from PAS and DAP is clear. What about the message from PKR? DAP grassroots have always voiced out to their leadership about the party's agenda and directions.

PAS politics are also interesting as the Muktamar plays the sole role of party agenda and objectives. We also hear the involvement of PAS Youth and grassroots in the party's policies. Democracy in PAS is indeed interesting.

PAS members are also worried about the true intentions of PKR and especially Anwar Ibrahim. They seem to lean towards DAP and not as moderate as they initially seem in terms of DAP-PAS politics and motives concerned.

PKR will need to clear their stand on DAP-PAS relations, if they want to unite the 3 Opposition parties under one umbrella, Pakatan Rakyat.

I have yet to hear about any grassroots voices or feedbacks from any Division Heads of PKR to the party's national leadership. All PKR MPs, State Assemblymen and State Assemblywomen should consider playing a more influential role in party politics.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat was formed because of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. But will the party continue to survive if during the day, everyone in PKR sings "I love Anwar" and at night, everyone in PKR dreams and murmurs "Anwar rocks"?

Look at UMNO, MCA, Gerakan, DAP and PAS. These parties do not go around any individuals. Members of these parties talk about their respective parties and not about any individuals. But in PKR, I see a dangerous trend where everyone is just saying "Anwar this, Anwar that".

I just wonder what if Anwar falls one day, what will happen to PKR? Will all the Anwar supporters crumble and the whole PKR be crushed like in 2004?

PKR consists of many Anwar supporters, lawyers, doctors and other professionals. However, if the party wants to be a solid and powerful political party, the 30 MPs (excluding Anwar) and 40 ADUNs of PKR should focus more on party agenda, instead of Anwar.

As the academician from UUM have said, Anwar should instead focus on strengthening the Opposition to make it a formidable force to face Barisan Nasional in 2012-2013's 13th General Election.

The people gave Pakatan Rakyat 4 State to govern (Kelantan belongs to PAS, not PR). It is an acid test to see whether Pakatan Rakyat is fit to takeover the Federal Government.

The rakyat aren't blind. If PR can perform, PR might be in Putrajaya in the 13th GE. Otherwise, BN will continue to govern Malaysia.

I am keen to see what Anwar's next move is. His hoo-haa over Sept 16 PR Government has created a dent in Pakatan Rakyat.

Pakatan Rakyat must now focus on their role as the Opposition party of Malaysia. All 3 component parties of PR should have table talks and formulate a true united Pakatan Rakyat, similar to the model of Barisan Nasional.

Dilemma :
1. Where is Anwar? And what is his next move?

2. What will happen to the PAS - DAP relationship?

3. Is PKR leaning towards DAP or PAS when a crisis occurs?

4. Can PAS-DAP be held together by PKR (or rather by the Anwar Ibrahim family) under Pakatan Rakyat?

5. What national agenda will Pakatan Rakyat put on the table with PKR and DAP being different from PAS?

Even Agendadaily published an article saying that a reporter was said to have commented on Anwar's press conferences - "different day...but same story". Read it here - Anwar Ibrahim: hari lain ... cerita sama.

Anwar gambled big with his promises. If he doesnt show the results anytime soon, he will lose his credibility once and for all. What more to say he has a "sodomy trial" noose hanging around his neck.

Our "best ever PM" Pak Lah is saying that Anwar is a threat to the national security. ISA next eh, Pak Lah?

Malaysian politics have also brought down great effects to student leaders and student candidates for elections. Some have changed their mindsets to a more power hungry and political approach, and I can personally see it here right in Canberra. I will not comment further to avoid controversies with the Malaysians in my University.

Perhaps, the politicians of Malaysia should focus more on 3 major issues that the public cares about :

1. Economy
2. Education
3. Unity

Malaysia Boleh!

MCA Elections

We have all expected from the beginning when Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting announced his retirement that the tussle for MCA's leadership will be between two Ongs and two Chuas.

Datuk Ong Tee Keat made the earliest move by saying he will go for the top post. This piece of news wasn't surprising because there were Chinese dailies already playing the news that OTK is groomed and preferred to succeed OKT.

It wasn't clear for the remaining 3 because of several reasons. OKC was a member of the Election panel and he did not want to go for any higher posts while CSL waited to see. CSL made a bad move because he was the last one to move and CJM went ahead to go for the top post.

OKC had the grassroots support and he was certainly going for the Deputy President's post. And thus, finally we now have the line up of two Chuas vs two Ongs.

My take? I agree that CSL was a great Health Minister. His personal life is his business as long as he performs well in public service. If MCA votes him back into the leadership, I hope he maintains a certain moral standard in his personal life and excel in public service.

I do not know what CJM can do for MCA. He has tried but failed to win against OKT. OKT wasn't a very strong leader in MCA as compared to Tun Dr Ling but he managed to beat CJM, a veteran. Perhaps, it is time to move on, CJM?

MCA's veterans should be "senior advisors" that play advising roles. These veterans should provide feedbacks and inputs to the new leadership instead of challenging the young blood. If veterans keep making comebacks and cling on to power, then when will the young ones learn to lead MCA?

The party will be thrown into a panic if one day all veterans are no longer around and suddenly, the young ones are on their own. Veterans of MCA, with their experience and having once been up there, should guide the young blood to bring MCA to greater heights.

Elections are good and they show to the people that democracy exists. However, I hope the MCA leadership candidates speak about policies and party agenda. Anything other than policies and agenda will create further cracks in a visibly weak MCA.

Whatever it is, I hope after the elections, veterans that I respect who are still involved in party politics like Tan Sri Ting Chew Peh, Dato' Chua Jui Meng, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy and others can help guide the party especially MCA Youth in facing challenges ahead.

There are bound to be political differences but after the elections, whoever wins or loses, should support the elected leadership and unite the party again.

MCA is not all about one individual but it is a party of many member and can be said as the voice of the Chinese community and a major partner of Barisan Nasional and UMNO.

My choice? Datuk Ong Tee Keat, Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek and Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan. My opinion is that Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan should remain as MCA Secretary General while Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek should take up the post of Deputy President.

Datuk Ong Tee Keat is fit to lead MCA for his strong character and openness. He is also a very frank and direct leader. MCA will not a eunuch under Datuk Ong Tee Keat but an Emperor, I hope.

Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek is a very strong leader and a capable Health Minister. His comeback should provide Dato' Liow Tiong Lai a great worry.

I believe if CSL wins, he might want his portfolio back, provided that CSL becomes an MP in a still governing BN in the next term or perhaps he might be given a Senator-ship and then the Minister-ship that way.

Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan might be moving up a little bit too fast. OKC was criticised by certain quarters for his outburst on Datin Paduka Tan Yee Kew's crossover to PKR.

There goes some support. And with the widespread impression about the snoop squad linked to outgoing MCA President OKT, OKC might face some problems in the Elections.

I hope the party understands that Datuk Seri OKT has been cleared of any links to snoop squad by the party seniors led by Tan Sri Sak Cheng Lum. Vote with a clear mind. And pat Datuk Seri OKT on his back for he has done quite a lot for the Chinese.

Chinese students who needed scholarships went to OKT and they were promptly awarded funds for their studies. The poor and needy be it Malays, Chinese and Indians who approached OKT obtained assistance too. These are not lies but complete truths as they were reported in newspapers.

Although I fear that the party might split where the losing faction could possibly crossover to Pakatan Rakyat, I sincerely hope the candidates and their supporters understand the challenges of MCA and Barisan Nasional and stick to the party they have strong feelings for.

Unite for MCA and Barisan Nasional and face the wave of Pakatan Rakyat.

MCA President Candidates :
1. Datuk Ong Tee Keat
2. Dato' Chua Jui Meng

MCA Deputy President Candidates :
1. Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan - don't think he has a website yet.
2. Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek

Aside :
Sheih Kickdefella has been arrested under the Sedition Act. No idea yet on what charge but I hope Sheih and his family stay strong ! You have my support Sheih !

Sept 16, 17, 18 atau ..... Mac 2013?

Sampai orang ramai menyebut pasal negara New Zealand.

Bacalah The Star : Third video would have cleared Eusoff Chin, Court told.

Petikan daripada berita The Star - Don : Anwar should focus on being Opposition Leader, oleh Sira Habibu.

....... “If Anwar fails to topple the Government as planned on Sept 16, he will continue trying for the next few years,” said Universiti Utara Ma-laysia College of Law, Government and Inter- national Studies research and post graduate dean Prof Mohd Mustafa Ishak.

“He also had the nerve to demand an urgent closed-door meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, whom he is planning to topple. It sounds ridiculous.

“The Prime Minister already has his hands full handling the uncertainties and arising chaos created by Anwar,” he said. ........

Prof Mohd Mustafa noted that it was not good for the nation’s economy if political uncertainties persist.

He pointed out that Anwar had failed to contain the 1997 economic crisis, when he was Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, adding that investors were already exercising extreme caution because of perceived political instability.

On the Pakatan Rakyat government in Perak, he said it was courting the people’s wrath by giving away vast tracts of land to mine operators.

“What is the rationale behind giving such large pieces of land to capitalists? The land should be returned to the state government. It should benefit the people, not mining tycoons,” he added.

Rasanya, Kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat di Perak perlu jawab juga. Tapi yang hairan, kem Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim agak sunyi. Tak ada berita baru dari Selangor? Semuanya lancar?

Sekiranya Pakatan Rakyat menjadi Kerajaan Malaysia, semoga pemimpin-pemimpin Pakatan Rakyat berupaya membawa perubahan. Do not become what you criticise BN for !

Buat masa inilah, saya nak kata ....

Aaahh ... blunders?

Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar in The Star "Reporter's Life Was Threatened" on Sept 14 2008.

.........However, the minister vehemently denied that he had anything to do with the arrests and detention of Tan and two others — Malaysia Today news portal editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin and Selangor senior executive councillor Teresa Kok — under the ISA on Friday........

......He said the action was taken by the police themselves based on their assessment of the current situation as they had “strong and good reason” to believe that conflict could happen and public order could be jeopardised.

“The police need not refer to me. It’s their discretion and their assessment of what happened. There has been no malice on their part,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman.
He said he was informed of the police decision on Friday to detain Tan, Raja Petra and Kok but did not interfere with it........

.......Asked if he thought the police action was justified, Syed Hamid said: “If I start to interfere with the administration of enforcement then it’s difficult.” “I am a minister. I am a politician. If I start to interfere, then people will say I have a political motive. It will send the wrong signals. I cannot interfere,” he said. .......

Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar in Utusan Malaysia "Syed Hamid jawab Zaid" on Sept 15 2008.

Hmmm. Datuk Seri Syed Hamid is making conflicting statements. Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin did not go well with the local and international press. He was criticized for his blunders with Al Jazeera during BERSIH's demonstration and his relationship with the local newspapers.

Now, we have Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar making statements that confuses the Malaysian people. I hope YAB tells us the truth behind the ISA arrests. Was it Bukit Aman or was it Kerajaan DiRaja Malaysia who ordered the arrests?

The trio were arrested under Section 73 (1) of the ISA. Shouldn't it have been Section 8?

Section 73(1) Internal Security Act 1960: "Any police officer may without warrant arrest and detain pending enquiries any person in respect of whom he has reason to believe that there are grounds which would justify his detention under section 8; and that he has acted or is about to act or is likely to act in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to maintenance of essential services therein or to the economic life thereof."

Section 8 : Power to order detention or restriction of persons. "(i) If the Minister is satisfied that the detention of any person is necessary with a view to preventing him from acting in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to the maintenance of essential services therein or the economic life thereof, he may make an order (hereinafter referred to as a detention order) directing that that person be detained for any period not exceeding two years."

Whether it was Bukit Aman or Putrajaya, it is not important. What is important is the case of the two remaining ISA detainees, YB Teresa Kok and RPK.

If they have broken any laws, then charge them in Court.

A PIECE OF MY MIND

A Professional PDRM Force

I refer to the accounts of Tan Hoon Cheng, the Sin Chew Daily journalist arrested under ISA. Read it here - My 18 Hours Under ISA.

Over the past years, we have always criticized the Police force for being corrupt, cruel and unprofessional. However, Tan's testimony showed us that the Police agents are professional in their duties.

In every event, there are always two sides. Some might say that the ISA arrests were improper, unnecessary and cruel. And there are quarters who blame the Home Ministry and the Government although Datuk Seri Syed Hamid publicly denied that the Government is involved.

Datuk Seri Syed Hamid said that he did not interfere with the police force because he is a politician and if he interfered, it will be seen as a political move. So the attention should be focused on the IGP and Deputy IGP of Malaysia on why Bukit Aman ordered the arrest of Tan.

Whether or not the Government is involved, we wont be certain. Datuk Seri Syed Hamid said the Government and particularly he himself was not involved. But Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn and various other politicians are criticizing the Government for the ISA arrests.

The Police or the Government? We can only wonder. Technically, it was the Police who arrested the trio on their own, without orders from the Home Minister.

Remember that they were arrested under Section 73 of the ISA that states :

Section 73(1) Internal Security Act 1960: "Any police officer may without warrant arrest and detain pending enquiries any person in respect of whom he has reason to believe that there are grounds which would justify his detention under section 8; and that he has acted or is about to act or is likely to act in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to maintenance of essential services therein or to the economic life thereof."

Whatever the case is, the PDRM handled Tan's arrest professionally and provided her with the basic necessities. I can see that the PDRM agents were lenient and very nice to Tan.

From Tan's writing :

...... I requested the female officer to keep the lights on. She told me not to worry, she will not switch off the lights. The police also informed me that I would be meeting my parents tomorrow morning at eight.......

...... At 6 o’clock in the next morning, when I was about to wash up, the female officer passed me the clothing brought by my parents. I was surprised; everything was new, the toiletries, t-shirts, shorts, panties. ......

In the past, when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was arrested under the ISA or for the 2nd sodomy charge, the commando unit of PDRM was used. Well, it would have been a big joke if the PDRM failed in their attempt to arrest anyone be it a politician or a normal citizen. Moreover, to arrest Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the police had to consider the arrest and also the safety of the detainee when making the arrest.

Thus, after countless times of getting slammed by the public, the PDRM deserves a pat in the back too for their professionalism. Let us all be fair even to the PDRM !

Blogs To Read, The Role of Media

Marina Mahathir ~ Let Us Not Be Fooled
Marina wrote an entry on PAS MP Siti Mariah who lodged a report against Datuk Seri Khir Toyo. According to Siti Mariah, "This action by Khir, the blog and Utusan Malaysia is an obvious attempt to manipulate the sentiments of the Malay and Muslim people.”

Even Sisters in Islam and PAS called for the release of Teresa Kok, RPK and Tan (released in less than a day).

Bakaq ~ Melayu Memang Rajin Menolong
There is an interesting piece of Bakaq's letter to YB Teresa Kok and an email he received from a friend about the Malay unity and the politics of PAS - UMNO.

Bakaq ~ Teringin Sungguh Nak Percaya Syed Hamid!
Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar might be creating a confusion. Even Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn is questioning Syed Hamid about his words. Personally, I think Syed Hamid is a good Foreign Affairs Minister. He should have been retained as our Foreign Affairs Minister, instead of being made a Home Minister. Otherwise, incompatibility of personality and portfolio will create another round of "attention" like the one Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin received.

Bakaq ~ Zahid zalimi diri sendiri
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed that the ISA detainees "zalimi diri sendiri". Bakaq takes a shot at his words. Good one there !

A Piece of My Mind
After reading Marina's blog and YB Siti Mariah's words, it makes me wonder about the role of Malaysia's media. It is a universal fact that NST, Utusan, The Star, the Chinese newspapers and the Television networks are owned directly or indirectly by MCA, UMNO and Barisan Nasional through Huaren Holdings and Media Prima.

I am not sure about the Tamil newspapers so I wont comment there. What will happen to the role of journalism and media if one day Pakatan Rakyat takesover as Government?

The odds are heavily stacked against Pakatan Rakyat if it takes over one day. Thus, we might possibly see that when Pakatan Rakyat governs at the Federal level one day, (if and only if), then printing presses and publications licences could be be given to news portals and brokers like Suara Keadilan, Harakah, and I am suggesting even Malaysiakini.

That time, Barisan Nasional will make full use of its control of the media, if possible, and finally decide to enter "cyber politics". Now, the cyber world is filled with conflicting opinions and ideas to the Government, although some sees it as check and balance.

Malaysia is indeed interesting, right? Politicians are just great entertainers.

Datuk Husam's Official Statement

Abdullah : Jangan Hilang Kewarasan
by YB Datuk Husam Musa on Sept 12, 2008

Raja Petra ditahan kerana menghina Islam?

a. Abdullah kekal sebagai Perdana Menteri.
b. Kerajaan BN kekal berkuasa.

Selamat berjuang.....

A Piece of My Mind
I stand on the side of NUJ, MCA, DAP and PAS on the Ahmad - Tan issue. Journalists who perform their duties on reporting should not be arrested. If Tan did something wrong, then Sin Chew Daily should have suspended her, just like how UMNO suspended Datuk Ahmad.

To arrest her because the Police received information that her life is under threat, it is not justifiable. The police should have taken her under a police protection programme, not ISA.

ISA detainees are a threat to national security. If we place probabilities, Datuk Ahmad has a higher probability of creating unrest than Tan. This was officially acknowledged with UMNO's apology on behalf of a still defiant Datuk Ahmad by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and followed by his suspension.

Datuk Husam argues that JAKIM and other Islamic organizations as well as Islamic scholars should have been given the opportunity to counter RPK's allegations on Islam. This is indeed a better way.

It can also provide JAKIM and our religious PM Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to enter "cyber politics" and counter RPK's allegations.

The Muslims and non Muslims in Malaysia are mostly educated and have sufficient levels of maturity to filter or absorb news that they read online. If RPK's allegations are ridiculous, the Malaysian people will never trust him.

Hujah lawan hujah. This is where the Government went wrong. They should have used this opportunity to enter the "cyber war" and answer their critics.

Every Cigarette Is Doing You Damage

Good day everyone. For those of you who have always wanted your dads, relatives, friends or children to quit smoking but cant seem to see any results, Australia is said to be a very successful nation with their anti smoking campaign using images and videos of the effects of smoking.

Visit : The National Tobacco Campaign .

There are a list of TV Commercials there which are frequently played during my dinner time. Haha. So it is a little bit gross, but it is indeed effective! (Note : I dont smoke!). I can't seem to find the latest TV commercial on the web. For those of you in Australia, you can check them out on TV.

As proof that Australia's anti tobacco campaign is successful, visit The Copenhagen Post : Scare Tactics Mark Anti Smoking Campaign.

Just to provide some insights to the videos :

Quit Now ~ Artery

Quit Now ~ Stroke

I wonder if Malaysia's MoH will come up with adverts like this. We all know that tobacco companies are one of the major revenues of Malaysia's tax revenues.

Hmm. Perhaps if Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek stayed on as Minister of Health, we would have seen ads like these soon. In terms of performance, he was indeed a great health Minister.

My Side on ISA

I received a very recent comment from a reader :

For a moment, when I read the report about a journalist and a blogger being detained under ISA, my first thought was, will I see your name in the papers next time under the same circumstances?

Just when how Malaysian student leaders are doing their best to portray the best of Malaysia to their counterparts from around the world, the depressing part is that our leaders are acting in a manner where, we as students, might even lose direction as to whether we were standing up for the right thing all along. Here in my home, bangsa Malaysia, all the things that we hope for in an ideal country like Malaysia, feel very distant, out of reach.

Well, I know I have been very open about my opinions towards a better government, my support for Tun Dr M against Pak Lah, a rebranding of UMNO and BN, and of course my views on why Pakatan Rakyat will not be ready to lead Malaysia due to DAP - PAS relations and the Anwar factor.

I have to say whoever left this comment, my mom told me the same thing this morning ~ to tone down when I blog. Bloggers who raise false allegations, spread rumours and create disharmony should face the music of the law.

I merely state the facts and have done nothing wrong, so I am not afraid to say what I want to say. In fact, there was once a free speech corner in INTEC and I was told to give a speech. I voiced loudly on campus about the Printing Presses and Publications Act and the Internal Security Act. Those who studied with me in UiTM Shah Alam will know.

If one day I am to be arrested under ISA in the future, then it must be that I have done something wrong. Otherwise, I know my family and friends from all races and all walks of life will lend me a helping hand and lobby for my freedom and for justice to be restored in Malaysia.

I agree with proper laws like the ISA and the PPPA but of course there is a need for amendments. ISA is not improper because even the so called free country United States use a similar law. Needless to say, Singapore too.

However, the ISA and PPPA need to be amended and used in moderation for the sake of the country, not politics. Imagine if PR takes over as Government one day. They can also use these acts for the PR agenda. Won't BN scream aloud "HELP !" when that time comes?

The blogosphere remains united, mature and practice self governance which will provide a check and balance to the Government for a better Malaysia.

I also place a great amount of trust in the credibility of our Government and the Police force. I am sure they are mature and professional agents that will act in the best interest of our society and our country. I hope so, or perhaps ... I am wrong?

Students and youths should UNITE and continue in their efforts to show to the world we are ONE ! The unity of students will show to the world and to the people of Malaysia that the voice of tomorrow will lead Malaysia to be a more comfortable home where we stand high and mighty in the eyes of the world !

We are all wise enough to decide, I am sure.

Why UMNO Got It All Wrong

This is where UMNO went wrong - DEMOGRAPHICS. Perhaps UMNO is trying to unite all Malays under their organization with their current political play. But has it ever worked? I still see PAS as strong and as healthy as ever. They are standing tall and mighty with a fortress built in Kelantan over many years.

UMNO even lost Terengganu in the previous GE although they won it back in March 2008. However, Barisan Nasional led by UMNO lost Kedah, Perak and Selangor. Of course, Gerakan leaders have their fair share of a slap by losing Penang to DAP.

If we look at the demographics in terms of population set up, the Malays form 65% of Malaysia, 27% are Chinese and 7-8% of Indians. Other ethnicities include Bumiputeras (taken into account in the 65% figure) and "lain-lain" will be approximately 1%.

UMNO faces a new Opposition. Not in the non Malays but Pakatan Rakyat. UMNO cannot take on Pakatan Rakyat on their own. UMNO needs the support of the Malays and also the non Malays. This can only happen under the umbrella of Barisan Nasional.

Allow me to quote part of M Bakri Musa's article Thrust forward our arguments, not our kerises.

Malays are dangerously polarized along cultural, religious and socio-economic lines. Worse, those fracture lines converge; affluent, liberal, urban, secular Malays versus their poorer, rural, conservative, Arab-oriented brethrens.

Further, disputes between Malays and non-Malays are over material matters, like scholarships, access to contracts, and economic opportunities. These are what Albert Hirschmann calls "divisible conflicts;" they can be resolved through negotiations and compromises. Splits among Malays on the other hand are over core values; they are "indivisible conflicts," not readily solvable and thus more dangerous.

Consider this: Umno Youth leaders have regular golf games with their counterparts in Singapore’s PAP but have yet to engage PAS Youth members in any goodwill gestures. They do not even attend the same mosque!

UMNO must not forget that not all 65% of the Malays support them. PAS, PKR and now even DAP has the Malay support. Remember Tunku Aziz's recent entry into DAP? Let us assume PAS, PKR and DAP gets 25% of the Malays' support and if UMNO has 40% of the Malays' support, is that enough for UMNO to govern?

And playing by their current game, I think the non Malays will opt for other Malay leaders in the likes of PAS and PKR Malay candidates. We all know the Constitution of Malaysia well but we do not play up the sensitivities of races. We watch our words and our actions.

Also, let us face the facts. 27% of the total population in Malaysia cannot effect any changes of equal rights. Or should I say 35% non Bumiputeras?

UMNO knows it perfectly. MCA, MIC, DAP knows it too. The climate of fear set upon by UMNO that when Pakatan Rakyat takesover as Government (as claimed by Anwar - on Sept 16), the Malay rights and official religion position of Islam will be affected. Is that so?

Allow me to remind UMNO on statistics again. There will be in total 132 Muslim MPs and 90 non Muslim MPs. If democracy is at full fledge, it is obvious what UMNO is harping on is a wrong political play.

What UMNO should do is show the solidarity of Barisan Nasional together with their component parties such as MCA, MIC, Gerakan and PPP. Show it to Pakatan Rakyat why Barisan Nasional is the best party over five decades of governance.

UMNO, leading Barisan Nasional, should instead convince the people why Pakatan Rakyat will not be stable and unfit to lead the country from multiple point of views on progression economically, politically, socially and of course in terms of education.

UMNO should tell the people all they know about the man said to be the 6th PM of Malaysia - Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. UMNO and BN should reach out to their communities and all the people of all walks and races that BN is still the party in charge, relevant and stronger than before where one tsunami hit will not sink the ship because Barisan Nasional is not a ship but a bouncing ball.

Barisan Nasional, when hit by "tsunami" will bounce back higher than before. That is what BN, led by UMNO, should tell the people of Malaysia. Oppression, ISA and racial strategies will not work.

Personally, I used to watch the TV and read the papers. Barisan Nasional leaders attending the component parties' Conventions and General Assemblies as a show of solidarity, unity and progress.

I have always been happy to see the semangat muhibbah of leaders like Tun Dr M, Tun Dr Ling, Datuk Seri Samy Vellu and Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik holding their hands high and mighty up in the air in a linked chain shouting the words ~ Hidup Barisan !

Bring me back those memories where every single Malaysian from all walks of life and races live in harmony and prosperity. Come on UMNO. You can do it !

Give me the Barisan Nasional that the majority of Malaysians loved ! Do not make the people sigh and move away to Pakatan Rakyat. Bring back the hope of the people in Barisan Nasional. Shine once again, UMNO. Unite again, Barisan Nasional.
