Explain the Fairus case!

Pakatan Rakyat leaders and their supporters must explain the following chronological events.

Amizudin's "Corruption" Revelation Inappropriate - February 28, 2009
Penang Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim said Amizudin Ahmat's revelation of alleged corruption involving two state party leaders was inappropriate. He said the action taken by Amizudin, the Kepala Batas PKR Youth chief was done without the leadership's knowledge and not in accordance with the party's internal channels.

"He should not have exposed it to the media without first referring it to the party as it can affect the party's image. Amizudin yesterday alleged that two state PKR leaders had received bribes from a quarry company. He however declined to reveal the names of the two state PKR leaders who were said to have interest in the company.

PKR Probes Bribery Allegation - March 16, 2009
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) began probing an allegation that two of the party's state leaders were on the take. A panel set up to look into the allegation by Kepala Batas PKR Youth chief Amizudin Ahmat met Monday. Amizudin was grilled for three hours by the panel headed by Penang State Assembly Speaker Abdul Halim Hussain at the state PKR headquarters at Seberang Jaya here.

Amizudin, who was dropped from the 2009 Seberang Prai Municipal Council councillor line-up, had claimed that two party leaders had allegedly accepted bribes from three quarry companies operating in Prai.

Guan Eng grants leave to Fairus - March 21, 2009
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin has taken leave for the rest of the week and should be back by Monday unless he extends the leave, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

“I was informed by (PKR de facto leader) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday (on Thursday) that Fairus had asked for leave. Although it was sudden, I approved the leave at Anwar’s request,” he said yesterday.

Fairus resignation accepted - March 22 2009
GEORGE TOWN: Embattled Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin has faxed his resignation letter to his boss Lim Guan Eng. Chief Minister Lim said he received Mohammad Fairus’ resignation letter that was faxed to his office which stated that he was stepping down as Deputy Chief Minister I and state executive councillor yesterday morning.

Contacted in Petaling Jaya, Anwar said Mohammad Fairus had quit to pursue post-graduate studies.

“He has received a few offers. He has not decided yet,” Anwar told a press conference.

“He can still remain as the elected representative while pursuing his studies. There is no problem as he could return weekly to serve the constituents,” he said after opening Seri Setia Assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad’s service centre in Kelana Jaya yesterday.

halo anwar ibrahim, mana itu transparency, freedom of expression that you so champion?

I dont see what is there to explain.

Almost evryone agrees that Fairus was underperforming, maybe bordering on incompetency.

The right thing for PKR to do was to force his resignation.

This is consistent with CM LGE's CAT philosophy for Penang.

At the same time, no need to crucify him publicly. The official reason is to save his face which is pretty obvious.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has shown that he has zero tolerance for corrupt incompetent leaders in government positions.

Lets hope Datuk Seri Najib Razak applies the same standard when selecting his cabinet.

If not, what an irony. The disowned son and not the chosen son who is following Tun's advice on cabinet selection.

I do not know if you have information which I don't.

As far as I know, Tun Dr M did not instruct Najib on who should be in the Cabinet.

Tun's public statement was an advice to Najib that he should ensure a corruption free Cabinet.

If Najib does that and you feel that it was Tun who directed on the Cabinet selection, I have nothing to say.

Actually I feel that you have not read the blog entry I wrote here properly.

I built up the events chronologically and never was it stated here that Fairus was incompetent.

Yes he was incompetent according to some PKR members and of course Anwar Ibrahim.

But did he step down because he was incompetent?

Again, refer back to the chronological events I posted here.

If he stepped down because of incompetency, I have nothing to say.

If it was due to corruption in the quarry scandal etc, then, shouldn't we question more?

If it is, then, isn't Anwar Ibrahim's actions of covering up the truth wrong as well?

So many "if" questions can only create more conspiracy theories which are no stranger to Anwar's policies.

Jeff Ooi also toolan with Lim Guan Eng?

I think this forked tongue (on his lie of anti-hopping) Lim Guan Eng must be taught a good lesson after having tasted to be in power!

Speculation rife that Jeff Ooi to quit as chief of staff
By TAN SIN CHOW

GEORGE TOWN: Speculation is rife that prominent blogger Jeff Ooi is quitting his position as chief of staff to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Ooi did not deny the speculation when asked, but pointed out that when he agreed to the post last March, he had made a pact with Lim that the appointment would be only for one year, or “once the (state) administration is on the right track.”

Ooi, also the Jelutong Member of Parliament, refused to comment further.

If he does resign, he would be the second person from the Penang Pakatan Rakyat state administration to resign within a week.

On Saturday, Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin had tendered his resignation as deputy chief minister I and state executive councillor effective April 8.

I didnt say Tun directed Najib on cabinet selection. I said what you said. Tun adviced DS Najib Razak to appoint a cabinet free from corrupt leaders.

I also said, "Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has shown that he has zero tolerance for corrupt incompetent leaders in government positions."

This is consistent with Tun's advice.

If DS Najib Razak does not follow Tun's advice and instead appoints corrupt leaders to the cabinet, then there's the irony.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand.

There is an internal PKR as well as a MACC investigation into the alleged quarry corruption scandal.

If Fairus is indeed guilty on top of his other shortcomings, then Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and CM LGE did the right thing by forcing his resignation.

If he is not guilty, then still it was the right thing on grounds that he was incompetent and a liability to the Penang state government.

We have to wait on the PKR internal investigation and MACC investigation to know what actually is the case.

The only difference is that, if he is guilty of corruption, then he should be sacked from PKR. He should also vacate his DUN seat if he is convicted. We have to wait and see.

However you look at it, how is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim trying to cover up by forcing his resignation?

How does forcing his resignation help to cover up? What is there to gain by covering up? In fact, cover up what?

Cover up that Fairus is corrupt? Shouldnt Fairus then be covering up and not Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim?

In fact, if you look at it one way,if Fairus is corrupt, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has the perfect reason to get rid of him since its an open secret that he has not been happy with Fairus's performance.

Also, lets imagine that for whatever reason that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants to cover up ( God knows why), then shouldnt he target the whistleblower? Howcome the whistleblower's allegations are being investigated?

If he was covering up, he should launch an investigation against the whistleblower, find him guilty and sack him from the party.

Also, even if he does this, the MACC is out of his control. If MACC can find the MB of Selangor guilty for distributing cows to his constituency, finding Fairus guilty for quarry corruption will be a piece of cake with just the slightest thing to link him to the quarry.

In short, allegations that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is covering up the truth does not arise.

The truth is not for Datuk Seri Anwar to determine. It is the police, MACC and finally the courts to determine. The public deserves at least that.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's actions should serve as a warning to all Pakatan leaders in government positions.

You must be competent and cleaner than a white cloth. Anything less just wont do.

CM defends tiger park idea
By LOOI SUE-CHERN

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has defended his proposal to start a tiger park in Relau, saying that the state needed a new eco-tourism project.

“Some people have suggested a zoo but it is not economical to have one presently. The people, especially children, are generally interested in big animals. The ‘wow’ factor is there,” he said when asked to elaborate on his idea.

Lim had announced that the state government planned to create a tiger park on a 40ha plot owned by the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) known as the Pondok Durian Cap Kaki.

He said Penang, in its pursuit to become an international city, should have such a park as most international cities had zoos.

The park could have a few other animals but it would mainly feature tigers which symbolised bravery and dynamism, he added.

“It will be a private-driven project and a tender will be called if the state government goes ahead with the plan.

“Currently the state is collecting public feedback. Those who want to contribute ideas or suggestions can write to the state government in Komtar or the MPPP,” he added.

The project, he said, would also help the state government and the MPPP tackle illegal farming activities at the proposed site.

It was reported earlier that the proposal had received negative feedback from the public and several non-governmental organisations like the Malaysian Nature Society Penang branch. They are concerned about the safety issues and felt that the state should concentrate on promoting Penang’s heritage, culture and arts.

Meanwhile, Penang National Park and Wildlife Department director Noor Alif Wira Osman said the state government and private parties involved in the project would have to iron out legal problems if the plan goes ahead.

He said it was not like setting up a bird park.

“The location for the park must be suitable. The safety around the tiger enclosures and surrounding areas is also a main priority,” he said, adding that the care for the tigers would also be subjected to close monitoring by the department.

“There are strict guidelines to follow to get the permit,” he said

You see, the reason given was that he resigned because he wanted to further studies.

A Deputy Chief Minister who took an oath to serve the people, quit after a year to further his studies.

I wonder if you are that naive to believe that when 6 days before he resigned, there was a panel in PKR who investigated the case.

Do you also remember the allegations from Datuk Nallakaruppan, former Director of Magnum Corporation, that Anwar received RM 60mil from the company's funds?

I wonder what happened there too.

Anwar's move might be right in removing an incompetent person.

But the reasons given are highly ridiculous.

May I ask if you are an Anwar supporter?

If you are, then do you know you will vote for Science and Mathematics to be taught in our mother tongue if you vote for Anwar?

And I have to represent my generation to thank you for sending us into oblivion.

From what I can understand from your posting, you are unhappy with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim not because he forced Fairus to resign or the actual reason for his resignation i.e incompetence/corruption/liability etc.

You are unhappy with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim because of the official reason which is to further his studies.

In politics, nothing should be taken literally. There is always a underlying message or hidden meaning in everything all politicians say.

So when PKR or the Penang state government says that Fairus resigned because he wants to "further his studies", thats just too absurd to be true.

From my 1st posting, I wrote that "At the same time, no need to crucify him publicly. The official reason is to save his face which is pretty obvious."

The official reason is superficial and carries no meaning. Dont waste your time being unhappy about it.

The actual reason carries substance because it gives an insight as to how our opposition leaders think and what kind of principles they will be governing with.

This is very important to us if we were to trust them with the Federal Government. If there are any issues here, then it is worth deliberating about.

About Mr.Nallakaruppan and his allegations, you should direct your unhappiness over the case to the police,MACC and Mr.Nalla himself.

If no investigation, no proof, no interest in the allegations or no word of it after crucial by-elections is the case, dont blame Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he cant help you more than denying it. Only the police, MACC and Mr.Nalla can.

About the Maths & Science issue, I think that there are pros and cons of teaching it in English as well as the mother tongue.

People who say that teaching them in English means that you are selling out your mother tongue are political opportunists.

Likewise, saying that teaching them in mother tongue means Malaysia will fall into oblivion is kind of unfair, misleading and instils fear which is not the way to win over public opinion over this issue.

Whatever the decision, I think consistency is the most important thing we should look at. We cant be simply changing between mother tongue and English every decade. Now, that will send us into oblivion.

Personally, I am in favour of mother tongue at the primary school level and possibly in secondary school. At pre-U and university, English should be the way to go.

I am not sure if this is also the view of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. I certainly hope so.

Lastly, I am a supporter of democracy, the rule of law, civil liberties and a peaceful thriving Malaysia.

As such, I suppose you can label me a supporter of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim since these are also his ideals.

Then again, you could also label me a supporter of Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohamed, Tok Guru Nik Aziz, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah etc. I'm sure these visionary leaders too share the same ideals as me and many others.

Thank you for publishing my comments.

With this post getting more active by the day, let me voice out my opinion which I hope can be viewed as constructive and unbias to readers of the blog.

I believe the main issue is not the substance but rather how you view it. Mr Anonymous is a person whom I think can debate and argue with evidence and not mere statements.

In his latest comment, he is right in highlighting the confusion earlier, Anwar did a decent job by making sure those who are corrupts to go away but probably not as good as what he had preaches earlier, total disclosure of those who misbehaved and incompetence. In this case, Wei Liang, Anonymous is right to by pointing out that every statements published in newspaper cannot be interpreted as it is and as always there are secret meaning behind it and as such the probable reason on why anonymous had claimed Tun instructed Najib this and that.

The reason why Anwar did not reveal the true cause (maybe it is really corruption) is that he is afraid MACC will come and do their job and possible convict Fairus of wrongdoing which will then lead to another by-election, one which they can't afford to have now with limited resources and manpower.

Let's debate with brains here and not get personal by claiming the other person as naive or ridicule them for their belief. After all we all believe in democracy and essence of democracy is disagreement but through disagreement we improve ourselves.

Anonymous,

It would be great to see you post more comments in the future
